Thinus Koekemoer is a Bi – Lateral Below Knee amputee. He was amputated in January 2019 due to bad leg deformities and poor blood circulation.
The first thing that stood out to me when I met Thinus, was his amazing spirit and friendly personality. It is always so good to me if you can see potential in an amputee, and you know, that if you succeed to fit him with comfortable sockets and good components, he will walk!
So, in one morning, we managed to use Bi-Lateral Direct sockets from Össur, where we manufacture the sockets with resin and fiber directly onto the amputee, created vacuum sockets with IceForm Suspension sleeves, and fitted him with the very soft and comfortable Balance S Foot from Össur.
His immediate reaction was one where he was a bit off balance, due to all of the movement, but 5 minutes in, he was smiling and walking…..
