Today, we went back to a little bit of “old school” suspension methods. Corrie Joubert has been an amputee for many, many years, and over the years, we have tried many different systems on him. He has quite a short and unstable residual limb that requires a properly fitted socket with good volume management, safe suspension and a well-aligned prosthesis.
This video shows a silicone locking liner with a pin, which is pushed into a lock inside the socket and lock to form a secure suspension. We also used the Ballance S foot from Össur, which is a foot with a fibreglass blade that provides a very soft and smooth rollover for the amputee.
As every amputee differs so much from each other, it is important to me that one has different manufacturing skills available to accommodate each scenario.
