Prof. Pistorius is a symes amputee. Her residual limb is extremely atrophied, therefore she has a very thin and bony stump, as one can clearly see in the photo's (2). To help her with more modern technology and to provide her with better comfort and suspension, we manufactured her a custom silicone liner (1). A cast was taken and sent to a company who then made the silicone liner, after which we manufactured the prosthesis (3). We had an eight week trial period where the patient walked with a test socket. In this period we have extensively "fine tuned" the prosthesis as the fit of the socket had to be very accurate to be comfortable, because of all the bony prominences.
